 Department of Horticulture, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture,Technology and Sciences in collaboration with Department of Horticulture and Food Processing, Govt of Uttar Pradesh invites applications for 10 days training programme on Upgradation of knowledge, skill in value-addition of Horticultural crops.


Programme Objective


The training is aimed to impart knowledge to the students, research scholars and farmers on important aspects of Upgradation of knowledge, skill in value-addition and export management of Horticultural crops.

         Course outline

• Maturity indices, Maturity and ripening process, harvesting and post-harvest handling of horti crops.


• Pre and post-harvest treatment, pre-cooling, method of different storage, irradiation and vapour heat treatment.


• Various methods of packaging- packaging materials and transport, Packaging technology.


• Processing Technology of Fruits and Vegetables- Dehydrated and osmo dehydrated products , 


beverages( fermented and non-fermented), frozen products, minimally processed products.


• Good manufacturing practices, hazard analysis and critical control points and sanitary measures.


• Microbial quality assurance of processed products.


• Value addition of fruits processing industry waste.


• Preservatives, colours permitted and prohibited in India.


• Cold chain management for fresh fruits and vegetables


• Export Technology and Packaging of fresh horticultural produce 

• E-Marketing for Horticultural produce 

• Project report writing and economic feasibility estimations for setting up of a processing industry.

           Eligibility

  • Final Year student of B. Sc. Ag, Hort. and Home Science: M.Sc. and Ph.D. students of ICAR recognised State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) and UGC recognised Universities and farmers and Exporters are eligible to apply. The number of participants will be limited to 30.
